Retreat Sep 2016

Welcome Fellows of 2017!  The new class began their journey on August 18 with an Orientation at the Cumberland County Historical Society.   This set the stage for the year to come.

Guest faculty included a noted local historian, an expert from Penn State University on the evolution of leadership and a panel from the class of 2016 who shared their experiences.   Fellowship sites were selected to provide the opportunity to serve as a non-voting member on a nonprofit board over the year.  A wide variety of experiences were  offered and the community, regional nonprofits and the cohort will benefit from this hands on experiential learning and networking.

This session set the stage for the retreat in September when the cohort had a dialogue on their expectations of each other for the year and created the team environment so integral to professional and personal development.   Topics for the team days were finalized along with discussion on the implications of the DISC personality inventory and having just plain fun and experiencing camaraderie.

The October session featured robust reports provided for each Fellow on the Myers Briggs Personality Inventory.   In addition an overview of nonprofit governance followed by leadership and communication were part of the day.  These support the cohort in their relationships with each other, understanding their strengths and challenge as leaders and preparing for volunteers through nonprofit governance.

In November the cohort had an impressive presentation on how to approach public speaking  followed by understanding the importance of the Board’s legal and fiduciary responsibilities when serving on a governing board.

The first team day on Cumberland County WORKS in December featured experts in the field of education to work opportunities.   January presented transformation leadership, conflict resolution and team building.
