Vancosky, Joseph

Joseph J. Vancosky – Chairperson

Executive Officer- Dunham U.S. Army Health Clinic, Carlisle Barracks

Joe has 27 years of healthcare administration experience. He is a Certified Healthcare Executive and Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives. Joe served over 21 years with the Army and has lived in Carlisle for the past seven years with his family.

Barb Brobst – Chairperson Elect

Executive Vice President & Chief Human Resources Officer, Orrstown Bank

Barb has worked at Orrstown Bank for the past 17 years, with prior roles at Mellon Bank, CoreStates Bank and Financial Trust Company.  She has served on the Board of Directors of Leadership Franklin County, as well as WIN Victim Services, United Way of Franklin County and the Chambersburg Chamber of Commerce.

Stephen Scherer – Treasurer

Orrstown Bank

In addition to being a CPA, Steve is a CISA (Certified Information Systems Auditor) and CIA (Certified Internal Auditor). He is the Treasurer for Leadership Cumberland. Steve also serves as an Advisory Board Member for the Salvation Army in Carlisle, and is the Annual Fund Coordinator for the Saint Patrick School in Carlisle.

Sherry Hoover – Secretary

Director of Medical Staff Services & Physician Recruitment Carlisle Regional Medical Center

Sherry has over 30 years experience in the healthcare field in the areas of regulatory compliance, credentialing and physician recruitment. She is currently a member of the Board & Community Investment Committee of the Carlisle Area Health & Wellness Foundation and a member of the Carlisle Area Healthcare Auxiliary Scholarship Committee. Sherry is a past Board member of United Way of Carlisle, First Night Carlisle, Susquehanna Ski Club and her church. Sherry holds national certifications as a Certified Provider Credentialing Specialist and Certified Professional in Medical Staff Management.

TJ George – Immediate Past Chairperson

Pastor of Connection Ministries - Capital Area Christian Church

TJ has served as the Pastor of Connection Ministries with Capital Area Christian Church in Mechanicsburg for 10 years. She is a 2012 Leadership Cumberland Fellow and is the 2012 Class Representative on the Leadership Cumberland Board.

John Anthony

Branch Manager - Fairway Independent Mortgage Corp

John has been involved in the mortgage industry for more than 25 years. He is a Past President of the Pennsylvania Association of Mortgage Brokers, a Past President of the Mechanicsburg Chamber of Commerce, a Past President and current board member of Main Street Mechanicsburg and currently serves as a Director on the Mechanicsburg Area School District Board of Directors. John is a Rotarian and a Mason. He and his family live in Mechanicsburg where he serves in various other volunteer capacities.

George M. Book, Jr.

President & CEO - West Shore Chamber of Commerce

George was recently chosen to lead the Chamber as President & CEO in November 2012. Prior to that, he served on the Board of Directors for the West Shore Chamber of Commerce for two years. He served as Chair of the Membership committee prior to serving on the Board of Directors. George is also a volunteer soccer coach for the South Middleton Soccer Association.

Jennifer Burd

Relationship Manager M&T Bank

Jen has been in the banking industry for the past 8 years holding various roles in commercial credit and commercial lending.  M&T Bank has been her home for the past two years where she has a position in Business Banking serving the Carlisle region.  She is a 2008 graduate of Millersville University where she majored in Business with a Finance focus and has subsequently received her MBA with a Finance focus as well.  Jen is also a 2015 Leadership Cumberland graduate.  She is a founding member of the Big Brothers Big Sisters Young Leaders Board and is also a Big Sister herself.  Additional involvement in other organizations includes: Carlisle Family YMCA Board Member, Carlisle Kiwanis Club member, and various committee work with the United Way of Carlisle & Cumberland County and the Carlisle Chamber.

Barbara B. Cross

Retired

Barb is retired with 25 years service from the United States Marine Corps and is also a former Cumberland County Commissioner. It was through Barb's service with the County that she learned of the great program Leadership Cumberland has to offer. Barb's participation has been as a panelist for the Leadership Day of Government. She was honored to receive the 2012 Distinguished Service Award. Barb's community service includes the Bio-Medical Ethics committee of Carlisle Regional Hospital, Chatham University Alumni Board and Lay Ministry at St John's Episcopal Church, Carlisle.

Michelle Crowley

President & CEO - Greater Carlisle Chamber of Commerce

Michelle has been the President and CEO of the Greater Carlisle Area Chamber of Commerce, since 1998.   Prior to that, she spent five years with the Greater Johnstown/Cambria County Chamber of Commerce as their Vice President of Marketing.   While in Johnstown, she helped to develop their Leadership program.   In addition to the Leadership Cumberland Board, she currently serves as a Board member of the Cumberland Area Economic Development Corporation, the Downtown Carlisle Association and numerous other community organizations.

Shireen Farr

Chief Operations Officer, Cumberland Area Economic Development Corporation & the Cuberland Valley Visitors Bureau

Shireen joined CAEDC in September 2009 as the Cumberland Valley Visitors Bureau Tourism Director. Shireen’s background includes over 30 years’ experience in information technology, operations, customer service, sales, marketing and finance in the telecommunications and yellow pages industry. In addition to leading destination marketing strategies on behalf of Cumberland County, as COO for CAEDC, she is responsible for overseeing finance, administration, operations, marketing and strategic planning activities.

David Gatesman

Vice President Holy Spirit Medical Group

Dave has 33 years of healthcare experience with the last 15 being in healthcare leadership.  Dave is a 2008 Leadership Cumberland Fellow and was the 2008 Class Representative on the Leadership Cumberland Board.  Dave and his family have lived in Mechanicsburg for the past nine years where he serves in various other volunteer capacities.

Taylor Griffiths

Assistant Fire Chief, Carlisle Barracks

Taylor is a graduate of Shippensburg University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice and a Minor in Public Administration.  He is currently attending classes at Millersville University working towards a Master’s Degree in Emergency Management and Disaster Preparedness.  Taylor holds numerous professional certifications with the National Board on Fire Service Professional Qualifications.  He has been an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) since 1999. He has also completed the Federal Emergency Management Agency Professional Development Series and is a member of the International Association of Fire Chiefs.

Taylor currently is a member of the Cumberland County Special Hazards Operations Team (SHOT), Dauphin County Hazmat Team, and the Colonial Park Fire Company.  He also sits on the boards for the SHOT Team Executive Committee and on the Cumberland County Local Emergency Planning Committees (LEPC) as the Government Liaison for Carlisle Barracks.   Taylor has graduated as a fellow with the 2015-16 Leadership Cumberland class and has been actively involved with the program since August of 2015.

Tim Horstmann

Attorney, McNees Wallace & Nurick LLC

Tim is a graduate of the Leadership Cumberland class of 2015 and joined the Board in 2016. He is a finance and tax attorney and represents a variety of clients in both the public and private sectors. He principally advises municipalities, school districts and nonprofits on the structuring of taxable and tax-exempt revenue bond and general obligation bond financing for a variety of capital projects, including manufacturing facilities, hospitals and other health care facilities, parking facilities, schools and higher education institutions and water and sewer projects. He also has advised both the buyers and sellers of public assets in the context of public-private partnerships.

In the private sector Tim has carved out a niche in the region representing a number of craft breweries, wineries and distilleries, and has assisted both new and well-established brands with liquor license compliance, tax, finance, and other issues that commonly arise in the industry. The next beverage you have may be from one of his clients!

Jason Maddux

Editor, Press And Journal in Middletown

Jason Maddux is a longtime journalist who has been the editor of award-winning newspapers in Ohio, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania. After stints at The Sentinel in Carlisle and PennLive/The Patriot-News, he now is the editor of the Press And Journal in Middletown. He has served on newspaper association boards in Wisconsin and Pennsylvania. As a Fellow in the Leadership Cumberland class of 2015 he served his internship on the Leadership Cumberland board.  Being part of the class helped Jason learn about Cumberland County quickly, having just moved here.  The program connected him to key people in the community, understand the challenges the area faces, learn about nonprofits and make friendships that he will value for years to come.  A graduate of Boston University, he lives in South Middleton Township with his wife and two children.

John R. Martin

Attorney, Rhoads & Sinon LLP

John Martin is a partner with the Harrisburg-based law firm of Rhoads & Sinon, and he is a member of the firm’s Employment & Labor practice group.  John’s practice focuses on representing employers in all aspects of employment law and litigation, and he regularly represents employers in a wide variety of actions and lawsuits, from administrative claims to federal jury trials.  In addition to representing Pennsylvania-based businesses of all sizes, John has represented several national companies in connection with employment defense litigation.  John is also a frequent lecturer, giving presentations on a wide range of employment law topics.  And in addition to providing clients with advice regarding employment issues on a day-to-day basis, John trains human resource professionals, supervisors, and employees on a variety of employment-related topics.

John was a fellow in the Leadership Cumberland class of 2013.  His greatest accomplishment that year was bringing four cases of beer to the overnight retreat at Camp Thompson.  It was a fun night, and he still doesn’t know with whom he shared a cabin; because it was dark when he went to sleep, and everyone was gone when he woke up the next morning.  John has stayed active with LC over years by participating as a guest panelist during the ethics class.  Entirely unironically.

John lives with his wife, Elizabeth, and their two children, Jack and Sarah, in Mt. Holly Springs, PA.

David K. Metz

First Vice President & Portfolio Manager-Morgan Stanley

David has worked as a financial advisor for more than 20 years. He is currently on the boards of the Todd Baird Lindsey Foundation and the Estate Planning Council of Cumberland County.

Dennette Moul, M.S. HRD

Organizational Development & Training Specialist for Dickinson College

In addition to development and training, Dennette works directly in areas around hiring, performance management, policy development, diversity and compliance. She does this through collaboration with colleagues and campus partners. Dennette is an alumna of LC, former guest faculty and past board member for the YWCA of Carlisle.

Brian Peters

Branch Manager - Members 1st Federal Credit Union

Brian enjoys mentoring his staff, serving his members, and developing business relationships at the Walnut Bottom Road branch in Carlisle. Brian has been a mentor for 4 consecutive years to other Managers or Supervisors within Members 1st. He likes being part of the community as a Carlisle Chamber Board member and Chair of the Membership Committee. Brian also is a Rotarian and leads the Christian Business Men’s Connection group of Carlisle.

Charles H. Wood, Jr. (Chuck)

Vice President for Human Resource Management and Administration for Volvo Construction Equipment

Prior to his positions with Volvo in North Carolina and Pennsylvania, Chuck worked for the Rank Organization and Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Co, both in Atlanta. His degrees include a MAcc in Accountancy and he is a Certified Public Accountant. He currently serves on the Carlisle YMCA Board and a few of his former community services include Leadership Ashville and the North Carolina Commission on Workforce Development.
